Erin Moriarty, Eka Darville & Wil Traval Take on Marvel’s AKA Jessica Jones

Marvel’s Daredevil series will premiere on Netflix in less than two months, and the followup series, AKA Jessica Jones is already filming in New York. Krysten Riter is playing the title character in AKA Jessica Jones. And while Riter has been recently spotted on set, she’ll be joined by some new cast members soon.

Netflix and Marvel have jointly announced the casting of Erin Moriaty, Eka Darville and Wil Traval in AKA Jessica Jones. Based in part on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ Alias comic book series, AKA Jessica Jones focuses on a former superheroine who tries to reinvent herself as a private detective while getting sucked back into the world of heroics that she left behind.

Moriarty will play a girl named Hope who becomes a client of Jessica Jones’ Alias Investigations, while Darville will portray Malcolm, Jessica Jones’ neighbor “whose own journey will intertwine with her quest in a surprising way.” In the Alias comic, Malcolm Powder was a high school student who helped Jessica with his vast knowledge about superheroes, but he hasn’t been seen since that series.

Strangely, Marvel and Netflix would only say that Traval is playing a cop who “takes ‘protect and serve’ very seriously.” Neither Traval or Moriarty’s characters appear to have counterparts in the Alias comic book.

Moriarty (pictured above) is best known for her role in True Detective as Audrey Hart, while Darville is a veteran of Power Rangers RPM and The Originals. Traval has previously starred in Red Widow and All Saints.

AKA Jessica Jones will also feature Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Carrie-Anne Moss as a character described as a “powerful ally” to Jessica Jones.

All 13 episodes of AKA Jessica Jones are expected to premiere in late 2015 or early 2016.
