“Revenge Porn Pioneer” Hunter Moore Faces Up To 7 Years in Jail

Hunter Moore, who ran the “revenge porn” website Is Anyone Up? which hosted naked photos of women without their consent, faces between two to seven years in jail for paying a man, named in the court documents as Charles Evans, to hack into computers in order to illegally obtain photos.

Moore, who was not tried for any offenses regarding the content of his website, has pleaded guilty as part of a deal to receive a reduced sentence, though he will face a mandatory minimum of two years imprisonment with fines and probation still to be determined.

The now-defunct Is Anyone Up? was sold to an anti-bullying group in April 2012, after Moore stated that he had grown tired of dealing with the legal implications involved when photographs of underage females were uploaded to the site. “I am burned out and I honestly can’t take another underage kid getting submitted and having to go through the process of reporting it and dealing with all the legal drama of that situation,” Moore wrote following the site’s closure.

Nine victims were named by the court as having had their photographs obtained by Moore and Evans by way of their hacking, and the court has now ruled that Moore’s access to computers will be limited from here on out. Moore was arrested in January of last year by the FBI for numerous counts of identity theft and security breaches.

Before Moore shut the site down he had claimed that it was attracting 30 million views per month, along with generating him $10,000 in ad revenue. Moore faced several lawsuits due to the content featured in the site, and was even stabbed in the arm by a woman who was featured on the site against her will.

Moore was once branded “the most hated man on the internet” due to the content of his site and his complete ambivalence in regards to what kind of emotional effect he was having on his “victims.” Since the closure of Is Anyone Up? Moore has mostly maintained a low profile, though it look like his past is now coming back to haunt him.

Good.
