Policy Change: Thirty-Day Trading Delay for Steam Gifts

For the millions and millions of Steam users out there, we’ve got a bit of news for you heading into the holidays:

Scammers have been buying games en masse, trading them away, but using forms of payment that are eventually declined. This causes the legitimate Steam users out there to wind up with games that are removed from their libraries because of insufficient payment.

So, to allow for proper payment processing, there’s a new month-long lock-down period after a sale. During that time, said game is ineligible for trade, pending the receiving, and finalizing, of payment.

Those of you who trade with integrity and good payment methods might find yourselves a little irked after this policy change. Until Steam thinks of something to accommodate well-behaved users, this is across the board, regardless of transaction or Steam Gifts trade history.

Hat tip to Crave’s Game Revolution for this story.
