Confirmed: Paid Mod Support Coming To Steam

We all know there are plenty of games on Steam that support modding and community content. What we haven’t really experienced yet is mods with an official pay structure. Mods are typically known to be free things, what with their generally buggy or experimental nature and such. User created content and the like is usually a basis or grounds for an early foray into game design for a young or inexperienced developer looking to perhaps gain some industry exposure and a foot in the door at a publisher some day.

With the newly-announced support for paid mods on Steam, this may give small developers the traction they need in order to support themselves and build bigger and better things, which they might not have had the resources to accomplish before. There is a 24-hour refund policy to discourage any would-be scammers, and devs will only see 25% of the total revenue, so anyone looking to simply make a quick buck will be sorely disappointed. This is for true lovers of game design only.

Skyrim is the first title getting support for this new program, with more games being added in the coming weeks.

Thanks to Crave’s Game Revolution for the Steam update.
