Whistler Opens On Saturday

Whistler Blackcomb is opening this weekend, several days ahead of schedule thanks to Mother Nature, and the popular skiing and snowboarding destination will feature new high-tech additions this season.

The Vancouver Sun is reporting that more than $6 million was invested into the resort, with new or revamped cabins that are used to bring people up the mountain. Bench seating in the new Sigma Diamond level walk-in cabins have also been improved. Skiers and snowboarders will also be able to bring their skis and boards into the gondolas with them or loading them outside the lifts.

“(Snowmaking) efforts, combined with the natural snowfall we have already received at higher elevations, have enabled us to get things rolling early again this year,” said Doug MacFarlane, director of mountain operations at Whistler Blackcomb, told The Province. “And with more natural snow in the forecast for later this week, it should be a fun opening weekend.”

Whistler Mountain opens on Saturday, November 22nd from 8:30am-3pm (last upload will be at 2pm). Blackcomb Mountain and the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will open on Thursday, November 27th. To see a complete listing of what is open on the first weekend of Whistler Blackcomb, click here.
