Simpsons App Will Be Blocked In Canada

A new app from The Simpsons, “Simpsons World,” is getting major buzz, as it will allow users to stream all 552 episodes and play with a number of other cool functions – but (D’OH!) it won’t be available in Canada.

The app, which was introduced to journalists this week, lets users move throughout the history of the animated series as well as check out scripts, watch episodes, and create their own playlists from all mobile devices, iPads, Smart TVs and xBoxes (The Canadian Press). The app announcement is hot on the heels of FXX becoming the new cable home for the series after they outbid the largest American companies for the history-making show. Fox International Television president Marion G. Edwards called it “perhaps the largest syndication deal ever having been made for any television series in history” (CP).

“The Simpsons” is the longest-running scripted show in television history and is now in its 25th season. Debuting in December 1989, it was also turned into a successful big-screen movie in 2007, making more than $527 million. Guest stars this season (something “The Simpsons” is notorious for) include Zooey Deschanel, Jennifer Tilly, Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, and race car driver Jeff Gordon. The series has won 27 Emmy Awards, 29 Annie Awards, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
