David Slade Will Direct The First Two Episodes of ‘Powers’

Back in 2011, Michael Dinner directed the FX pilot of “Powers,” based on the comic book series created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. While that pilot was ultimately rejected by FX, Sony resurrected the “Powers” TV series earlier this year and announced that it will be coming to Playstation Network.

According to Deadline, David Slade has been signed to direct the new pilot of “Powers” and the second episode from scripts by Charlie Huston. Slade will reportedly be credited as executive producers on the first two episodes.

Although Slade has directed feature films including The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, he has more recently been in demand as a TV director with several episodes of “Hannibal” to his credit in addition to the pilot of “Awake” and an episode of “Breaking Bad.”

Originally published in 2000, “Powers” follows former superhero Christian Walker and his partner, Deena Pilgrim as they investigate superhuman related homicides for the police in a world where super powers are real and ordinary humans are often collateral damage.

Huston will be the showrunner of “Powers,” with Bendis and Oeming as executive producers alongside Dinner and Remi Aubuchon. With Slade in place for the first two episodes, casting should begin soon.

“Powers” will premiere on Playstation Network this December.
