Tony Daniel Will Relaunch Deathstroke In October

At the start of DC’s New 52 reboot, Deathstroke received his second ongoing series from the publisher, but the book came to an end after less than two years. But DC is getting ready to try again.

Tony Daniel (Detective Comics) will be writing an all-new Deathstroke ongoing series beginning in October. Daniel and Sandu Florea will be the art team for Deathstroke vol 3. Deathstroke was originally created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez as an enemy of the Teen Titans, but he became popular enough to hold down his fist comic book series in 1991. More recently, Deathstroke has been one of DC’s most prominent villains, with major roles in “Arrow,” the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us and the recent Forever Evil event.

While speaking to MTV News, Daniel said that Deathstroke is ”still a mercenary and assassin, so there’s no way he’€™ll ever be welcomed into a room full of heroes. I’m writing him in a way where he is still pretty much a bad guy but because of his methods, and that whole killing his enemies thing.”

“But the people he’™s up against here are clearly evil bastards,” continued Daniels. “If anyone deserves to be disemboweled, it’s this group. Deathstroke is a murderer by all definitions, for the most part, he’€™s going after his targets. In my first arc he’€™s also the hunted, so I guess there is a little self defense in there somewhere. But make no mistake, he won’€™t be palling around with Superman. His only friends or lovers are others who are deeply rooted in the world of crime.”

Deathstroke # 1 will be released on Wednesday, October 22.
