47% of E3 2014 Tweets Were about Nintendo

In the aftermath of E3 2014, it’s become quite apparent that Nintendo had a superb showing, rising to the occasion under arguably do-or-die circumstances. But just how much mindshare did Nintendo manage to snag on the internet and social media? If Twitter is an accurate indicator, the results are mighty impressive.

As pointed out by analytics provider Crimson Hexagon, upwards of 47% of all tweets sent regarding last weeks’s convention mentioned Nintendo in some way. When you break down the numbers, about 30,000 tweets that featured the #e32014 hashtag also featured a #Nintendo hashtag, from a total of 55,000 total #e32014 tweets. Whether or not subtweets and non-hashtagged tweets have been factored into Crimson Hexagon’s results is not clear, but it’s safe to say the numbers are a win for Nintendo regardless.

The competition garnered some solid buzz as well, with Sony securing 28% of E3 tweets and Microsoft lagging slightly behind at 25%. I personally feel Microsoft’s presence edged out what PlayStation brought to the table this year, but it’s no secret that PS4 has substantially more momentum that Xbox One these days — even with a just-okay E3 press conference.

There are plenty of handy recap videos around the web if you need to catch up on how Nintendo took care of business at this year’s show. Or even better, why not check out our previews of the latest Smash Bros., Yoshi, and Kirby games?
