Charlie Cox Is Rumored To Be Marvel’s Daredevil

Over Memorial day weekend, Drew Goddard stepped down as the showrunner of Marvel’s “Daredevil,” while Steven S. DeKnight was officially named as Goddard’s replacement. With filming slated to begin in July, the leading role for “Daredevil” was expected to be filled soon. However, a new report claims that Marvel has already found its Daredevil.

According to Latino Review, Charlie Cox is rumored to be playing Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in the upcoming “Daredevil” series for Netflix. Cox is best known for co-starring in two seasons of “Boardwalk Empire” as Owen Sleater and for starring in an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. Cox has also appeared in the 2011 Moby Dick TV miniseries, “Downton Abbey” and the upcoming film, Dracula Untold.

If the report is accurate, it would fit with Marvel’s previous casting patterns for its cinematic universe. In 2009. Chris Hemsworth was cast as Thor just as he was beginning to breakout as  a star in Hollywood. Cox’s turn in “Boardwalk Empire” was very well received among fans of that series and he demonstrated that he had the acting talent to carry his storylines. Headlining the “Daredevil” series would go a long way towards making Cox into a star as well.

Daredevil was previously portrayed by Ben Affleck in the 2003 Daredevil feature film. Prior to that, Daredevil’s only live action appearance was played by Rex Smith in the TV movie, The Trial of The Incredible Hulk
