Space announced today that it has teamed up with Syfy to produce the upcoming original adventure drama series “Killjoys,” produced by Temple Street Productions (“Orphan Black”).
The brainchild of writer, creator, and showrunner Michelle Lovretta (“Lost Girl”), “Killjoys” follows a trio of interplanetary bounty hunters sworn to remain impartial as they chase deadly warrants throughout the Quad, a distant system on the brink of a bloody, multi-planetary class war. In development since 2012 as part of Bell Media’s Writer Only Drama Development program, the project was ordered to series by Space in October, 2013. The 10-episode series will begin production this August in Toronto, and is set to premiere on Space in 2015.
“We’re delighted that Canadian productions continue to resonate beyond our borders,” said Catherine MacLeod, Senior Vice-President, Specialty Channels and Bell Media Production, in an official press release. “We have a strong partnership already with Temple Street Productions, and we very much looking forward to Syfy joining us on this inter-galactic adventure.”
“With its explosive action, smartly-drawn characters, and fun and provocative story-lines, ‘Killjoys’ has all the ingredients to make it the perfect complement to our expanding slate of quality science fiction drama series,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy.
“Being able to work with both Space and Syfy is the perfect scenario for ‘Killjoys,’” said Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier, Executive Producers and Co-Presidents of Temple Street Productions. “In their respective markets, Space and Syfy are the authorities on genre programming, and getting to showcase your productions on these networks is as good as it gets.”
