The Musketeers Sees Its Canadian Premiere

The new series “The Musketeers,” whose characters are based on those in the novel of the same name by author Alexandre Dumas, will see its Canadian premiere on BBC Canada and Showcase – the swashbuckling adventure series makes its North American debut this month.

According to an official press release, with “action aplenty and wonderful costumes” (“The Independent”) and hailed as “a romp, in every sense” by “The Guardian,” “The Musketeers” offers a fresh, contemporary take on Dumas’ much-loved characters and stories. The witty, action-packed series follows the young and determined d’Artagnan (Luke Pasqualino, “Skins,” “The Borgias”), brilliant swordsman Athos (Tom Burke, “Great Expectations,” “The Hour”), handsome womanizer Aramis (Santiago Cabrera, “Merlin,” “Heroes”) and the intensely loyal Porthos (Howard Charles, “&Me”) as they fight for justice, for honour, for love and for adventure.

Far more than merely royal bodyguards for King Louis XIII, the Musketeers are inseparable, loyal unto death and committed to upholding justice. On the streets of 17th century Paris, they face a continuing struggle to maintain order and protect the King and Queen, while outwitting the schemes of the shadowy Cardinal Richelieu (Peter Capaldi, “Doctor Who,” “The Hour”) as he ruthlessly strives to achieve his vision of a modern France along with his hired assassin, the beautiful but mysterious Milady de Winter (Maimie McCoy, “Loving Miss Hatto”).

“The Musketeers” begins on Sunday, April 20th at 9pm on BBC CANADA and Sunday, April 27th at 10pm on Showcase.
