March Madness 2014: Manly Recipes

You’ve already went through one weekend eating nothing but pizza. It is time to try something different.

It isn’t hard to make man-food. Protein, plus spice, plus cheese, and you’ve got yourself a house full of happy guests who might finally be able to get over that Duke loss. Most importantly, this is the time of the year to show-off for the females in attendance. They may overlook the weird stains on your couch if you present some cooking skills.

It is easy to wow them… almost as easy as these are to make.

Bracket Busted Buffalo Wing Dip

Ingredients – four skinless chicken breasts (they sell can versions too), 2 packages of cream cheese, 10-12 oz. ranch dressing, 1 package of shredded cheddar cheese, your favorite buffalo sauce.

  • Cook and shred chicken. Throw all the ingredients into a big pot or slow cooker. Stir often. Serve warm with chips.

This stuff looks like a wasteland worse than failed picks but tastes like sweet victory.

Cinderella Story Nachos

Ingredients – chips, ground beef, shredded cheese, can of olives, can of cut jalapenos, salsa, guacamole.

  • Grill the meat. Get one of those big glass pans or any cookie sheet. Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Layer chips, then beef, then cheese, then chips, then cheese and then olives and jalapenos. Throw the salsa around the edges. Leave in the oven for 20 minutes. Layer in some guacamole on top after it comes out.

These nachos may be rough around the edges, but they bring the taste when it counts… during tourney season.

Charles Barkley Beefy Macky N’ Cheesy

Ingredients – Two boxes of Kraft Mac N’ Cheese (it will ask for milk and butter), 2 pounds of ground beef, 1 package of taco seasoning.

  • Make the boring macaroni and cheese per instructions on box. Grill the beef with the taco seasoning. Combine and enjoy. Bonus: Add a diced tomato.

Much like Sir Charles, this is both beefy and cheesy. Both in a good way.

“Count It; It’s Good” Chili

Ingredients – 2 pounds meat (choose one or many), 1 can of kidney beans, 1 can of black beans, 1 big can of chili beans, 1 box of chili powder. Bonus items: 1 chopped onion, 1 can of sliced carrots, shredded cheese, sliced tomatoes

  • Brown the meat. Add all ingredients to a big pot or slow cooker. Cook on low. The longer you can cook the better (don’t break 6 hours your first time).

The best part of chili is that you can’t mess it up and you can add whatever you like. Most of all, no one hates chili.

Three Point Dogs

Ingredients – 1 package of hot dogs, 1 can of Pillsbury crescent rolls, 1 package of spicy jack cheese. Bonus: Hot Sauce

  • Open crescent rolls. Lay a slice of cheese on each roll. Dribble hot sauce. Roll a hot dog into each crescent. Lay on cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes at 375 degrees in oven.

The great thing about Howling Dogs are they are grab-and-go, so you don’t have to miss a second of the game. Plus with only three ingredients … they are an easy swish of a three-pointer.

Most March Madness parties have a ton of people which means more chips and drinks than any party can handle. Be a man and plant your own flag… and impress the ladies.
