‘The Librarian’ May Return To TNT As a TV Series

Ten years ago, Noah Wyle starred in the TV movie, The Librarian: Quest For The Spear, in which he played Flynn Carsen, a seemingly ordinary man who was tasked with protecting a collection of historical and mystical artifacts. Wyle reprised his role in two additional Librarian TV movies before eventually starring in TNT’s “Falling Skies.” However, “The Librarian” may be back on TNT before the end of the year.

Deadline is reporting that “Leverage” creator John Rogers is reteaming with Dean Devlin (ID4) for a possible ten episode “Librarian” TV series. Because of Wyle’s commitments to “Falling Skies,” he will not be able to star in “The Librarian” TV show. However, negotiations are underway to bring Wyle on to the project as an executive producer with a potential recurring guest role.

The new take on “The Librarian” would center on a new group of men and women who are mentored by Flynn as they follow in his footsteps. Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin are also being approached to reprise their roles from The Librarian TV movies.

TNT has given “The Librarian” a cast contingent greenlight; which means that it will go straight-to-series if the network approves of the casting choices. An official pickup won’t be given before that, but the Deadline report states that “The Librarian” may premiere as a series late in 2014
