Beta Access to Titanfall Will Not Require a Pre-Order

There are few things in gaming right now more shrouded in secrecy (or perhaps confusion) than the upcoming beta for Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall. Rumors have suggested the beta could begin as soon February 14th, yet no information on how to gain access or even sign up has yet been released. Luckily, one Titanfall mystery has now officially been solved: the beta will not require pre-purchasing the game.

The info comes via a tweet from Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella, in which he very clearly lays down the facts.

You will not need to have the game preordered to get in the beta. I’d give it to them first for supporting us if it were possible tho =)

There’s even a smiley face! You’re making me feel all warm and fuzzy, Vince.

Despite the good news, there’s still ample uncertainty surrounding the beta, and even the game itself. If Respawn is serious about having a beta up and running a mere 11 days from now, it’s fair to assume we’ll be hearing more information very, very soon.

On the other hand, it could be that the February 14th rumor is completely false, the beta won’t see the light until later this month, and my hopes and dreams will come crashing down in a smoking heap of scrap metal (because my thoughts take the form of Titans). Manning a Titan still seems as awesome as it did when we first saw screenshots months ago, and swirling rumors aren’t making the wait any easier.
