A Brand New Star Wars Game From Titanfall’s Developers Is On Its Way

Respawn Entertainment, the development studio behind Titanfall, will be developing a brand new third-person Star Wars game, it has been announced today.

Respawn is partnering with EA and Lucasfilm in order to bring the new game to life, designer Stig Asmussen has revealed. Though there are no further details regarding the game other than it is currently in development and that it will be a third-person, action/adventure game, Stig noted that the entire Respawn studio “erupted in cheers” when it was announced that their next project would be set in the Star Wars universe.

In an excerpt from his blog post announcing the upcoming game, Stig wrote:

“We promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet.  Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.  Moving forward, we couldn’t ask for a better universe in which to continue this journey, and although I would love to share all of the exciting places we are going, we have the following piece of information to divulge with you all today:

We’ll be making a third-person action/adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.

Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within.  We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead. “

Stig also revealed that Respawn would be hiring “in all departments” in order to create the game, concluding: “This is the chance of a lifetime.”

It’s not yet known what shape this new Star Wars game will take, though many will likely be hoping that this could be evidence of some life being breathed into Star Wars 1313, a third-person Star Wars game that showed a ton of promise before being canceled following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. However, this is purely speculation at the moment, with this upcoming game likely a long way off considering that Respawn is currently working on Titanfall 2.
