CES 2014 VIDEO: Social Media Command Center Connects Vegas

CES 2014 VIDEO: Event Update; 12/7/13

It always seems odd that consumers can’t attend the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

CES is a true trade show, and only professionals from the electronics and technology industry are allowed to attend. The average buyer has to wait for the items inside the Las Vegas Convention Center to reach stores.

Now, there’s some gray area there. The definition of an industry “professional” can get hazy between executives, media and PR reps. Any clown with a week old blog can claim a right to attend. And, obviously, every pro who comes through the doors is a consumer at heart. They buy stuff, too. The bottom line is there are millions of tech and gadget lovers across the world who can’t get into CES, and they want all of the most pressing news ASAP.

To fill that need, and to allow attendees to communicate with each other and their online followers, CES set up the Social Media Command Center – a networking center allowing attendees “to keep up with the latest trends that are happening live from CES.”

The Social Media Command Center at the 2014 CES will be powered by FleishmanHillard’s black box, “an interactive, portable, human-powered technology platform that integrates business data — including traditional, digital and social conversations — into real-time insight dashboards and visualizations.”

According to CES reps, this black box “sifts through mountains of information being generated across the show floor and beyond.” Show attendees can use the touchscreen filled with rotating topics based on conference content and click on a subject to see all relevant content. The visitor can then send selected news to the outside world via their own Twitter feeds.

For those of you inside the business who will be attending CES, this new Social Media Vending Machine will be located in the Experience CEA display in the LVCC Grand Lobby. Attendees who use the vending machine to issue a tweet are asked to use the official CES hashtag (#CES2014) and Twitter handle (@IntlCES).
