Disney, Toei Unveil ‘Avengers’ Anime Series

The Avengers are coming to Japan.

Walt Disney Japan and Toei Animation are teaming for a new Marvel animated series that will be targeted towards Japanese boys. “Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers” features Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and The Wasp alongside Spider-Man and “a group of teens” who join forces to oppose Loki after several Marvel heroes and villains are imprisoned in disks that were designed to hold the villains.

From the description, “Marvel Disk Wars” seems to be geared towards the fans of “Pokemon,” “Beyblade,” “Digimon” and “Yu-Gi-Oh!” Since the target audience is between 6 and 12 years old, that shouldn’t be that surprising. A full line of merchandise will also be created around the series.

“Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers” will premiere in Spring 2014 in Japan. There isn’t currently an announced timeframe to bring “Marvel Disk Wars” to America, but it seems likely to hit Disney XD at some point in the future.
