Wes Craven to direct 'Scream 4'

Wes Craven is all set to make audiences scream again. In a press release issued by Dimension Films today, it was announed that the the reknowned horror director would be helming the fourth film in the Scream series, currently titled Scream 4.

"[Screenwriter] Kevin [Williamson] is right on his game with the new script — the characters and story crackle with energy and originality — to say nothing of some of the most hair-rasising scares I’ve seen in a script since….well, since the original Scream series. Let me at it." said Craven, who will be joined by former Scream castmembers Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox Arquette.

Scream 4 will also see the addition (and spilling) of some new blood to the cast, though no word is available on who might be currently under consideration. In the meantime though, Dimension Films has released the following teaser poster to help drum up interest in the latest installment. The poster boasts the ubiquitous visage of Ghostface along with the tagline : New decade. New rules.

Scream 4

Scream 4 is scheduled to hit theaters April 15, 2011, making it the first Scream film this side of the millennium (Scream 3 was released in 2000). During the 90s, the Scream franchise raked in about $500 million at the worldwide box office, with its unique brand of self-aware horror and thrilling kills.

Added Craven, "I’m delighted to accept Bob Weinstein’s offer to take the reins on a whole new chapter in Scream history. Working with Courteney, David and Neve was a blast ten years ago and I’m sure it will be again. And I can’t wait to find the talent that will bring new blood to the screen as well." While this is Craven’s fourth time working on a Scream film, it’s only Williamson’s second after writing the screenplay for the original film.
