Scott Buck Named Showrunner of Marvel’s Iron Fist

Earlier today, Heroic Hollywood and ComicBook.com reported that Scott Buck was hired as the showrunner for Iron Fist, the fourth Marvel live-action series on Netflix. A few hours later, Marvel made it official.

On Marvel.com, Marvel made the formal announcement of Buck’s new position. Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb added that “Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet. We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

Buck was previously the showrunner of Dexter, and an executive producer on Six Feet Under. “I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and Iron Fist to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck in a statement that accompanied the announcement.

The official description for the Iron Fist series was also released: “Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

Iron Fist will be the final solo series on Netflix leading up to The Defenders miniseries with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist coming together as a street-level superhero team. The Defenders is tentatively slated to be released in 2017, which means that Iron Fist will have to be released before that miniseries begins. But since the title role hasn’t even been cast yet, it could be several months before Iron Fist is ready to go in front of the cameras.
