First Images of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Revealed

The first image of Eddie Redmayne as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘s Newt Scamander has been revealed on the front cover of this month’s Entertainment Weekly, offering us our first insight into the Harry Potter prequel.

The first in a new trilogy of films, which are based upon scripts written by Harry Potter author JK Rowling, see the Oscar-winning actor assuming the role of explorer Scamander, who ventures to New York in order to learn more about the fantastical beasts referenced in the film’s title.

Redmayne will star alongside female lead Katherine Waterston in the film, with Colin Farrell, Exra Miller and Gemma Chan heading up the supporting cast.

Fantastic Beasts was initially referenced in the Harry Potter novels, with it being a fictional textbook owned by Hogwarts students and penned by Scamander, documenting his journeys around the world and detailing the various creatures he came into with. Rowling eventually produced a real Fantastic Beasts book, with it being released for Comic Relief.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is scheduled to be released in November 2016.
