Watch Foo Fighters Play For The 1000 Super Fans Who Covered ‘Learn To Fly’ In Viral Video

Foo Fighters have just played live in the small Italian town of Cesena for the 1000 people who lured the band to their town with an epic cover of Learn To Fly and Dave Grohl has given a heartfelt thank you to all those involved.

The cover has amassed over 26 million views on YouTube and at the time was picked up by Grohl himself who thanking the performers in a phone-filmed message before announcing that the band would be coming to the town.

Playing today in a venue much smaller than their usual arenas, Grohl acknowledged those involved, who refer to themselves as the Rockin’ 1000, calling them “crazy motherfuckers.”

“I know that you know we are here for a very special reason,” he said during an extended intro for one of the band’s earliest tracks Big Me

“The whole world saw what you did. Millions and millions of people. It’s a beautiful thing. Congratulations.”

He then reiterated the story of how he first came to see the video after receiving heaps of texts from friends while on holiday admitting that he “cried because it was crazy.”

“When we make music we do it in our basement and in our studio. It’s very simple. We write the songs and then we make the record but we don’t really think about the rest of the world. And then to see you people singing our song for the whole fucking world was the greatest moment.”

The town of Cesena barely gets small bands through let alone the biggest bands in the country but Grohl encouraged them to do the same thing for bands like Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden.

“You trapped us. We had to come here,” he said.

By the looks of it the Foos also invited the organiser of the cover Fabio Zaffagnini to hang out with the band backstage.

The Rockin 1000 documented the concert minute by minute on their Twitter account and by the looks of it the crowd went absolutely crazy for the band and the Foos loved every single minute.
