Unseen Footage from Cancelled Star Wars Battlefront III Revealed

EA and DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront beta proved to be a relative success, with it becoming the publisher’s most-played beta ever, but many still felt a little underwhelmed by it. While we enjoyed it quite a lot, some of the complaints leveled at the direction in which DICE have taken the series are understandable, especially for those who are still mourning the loss of Free Radical’s cancelled Star Wars Battlefront III.

Battlefront III did seem to be a lot more ambitious than the game DICE has produced if the beta is anything to go by, with ground-to-space battles being highlighted in previous leaked footage we’ve seen of the game. Now YouTuber PTPOnline has posted some more footage of the game’s PC pre-alpha build obtained from an anonymous source, and while there are inevitable problems with frame rate and such, it does highlight the vast scale of the canned project.

Check out the footage below:

At around the 0:40 mark, you’ll see a Droid Starfighter take off from a platform on what appears to be Galactic City. This is a good example of the expansive dogfighting battles Free Radical were planning for the game, and is certainly larger in scale than the contained aerial battles featured in the Battlefront beta. The game’s planned original story is also highlighted at around the 4:55 mark, with a player controlled clone trooper shown walking between two rows of his fellow soldiers, each saluting him.

DICE have certainly gone in a completely different direction with their Battlefront game, and there will be many who will be disappointed that they never got their hands on this third entry in the Battlefront series instead.
