Mary Elizabeth Winstead Will Fight The BrainDead on CBS

Earlier this summer, CBS ordered BrainDead to series with a targeted launch next summer as a potential replacement for the recently canceled Under the Dome. Now BrainDead has its leading lady in place.

Deadline is reporting that Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been signed to play the main character in BrainDead, a series that blends sci-fi, horror and comedy together. Winstead will portray Laurel, a young woman from a powerful Democratic family who is pulled into politics to help her brother run his Senate office. Soon after her return to Washington, Laurel uncovers an alien conspiracy that has taken over the brains of several congressmen and their staff members.

Winstead recently starred in the American version of The Returned on A&E, and she has previously appeared in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Final Destination 3, Death Proof, and the remakes of The Thing and Black Christmas.

BrainDead was conceived by Robert and Michelle King, the creators of CBS’ The Good Wife. BrainDead has a 13 episode order, but an exact premiere date has not yet been announced.
