Keiynan Lonsdale Is Wally West on The Flash Season 2

In the comic book world of the DC Universe, lightning can strike twice! First, Barry Allen was struck by lightning and doused with chemicals that made him into The Flash. Years later, Barry’s nephew, Wally West suffered an almost identical accident and became Kid Flash.

The Flash Season 2 is adding Wally West to the mix. The Divergent Series: Insurgent co-star Keiynan Lonsdale will portray Wally as a series regular. Lonsdale is an Australian actor with a background in dance who doesn’t have many credits to his name. Previously, he was a star in the Australian TV series, Dance Academy.

“Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero,” said The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg in a statement. “We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

Wally West was created by John Broome and artist Carmine Infantino in 1960 as The Flash’s new sidekick. In the ‘80s, Wally became the new Flash and he held his own comic book series until the early 2000s. Prior to DC’s New 52 reboot, Wally was a caucasian man who was married and had two kids of his own. After the reboot, Wally was re-envisioned as a half-black, half-white teenager.

Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex) is already slated to guest star in The Flash Season 2 as Jay Garrick, The Flash of another world. In the comic book world, Jay Garrick was DC’s original Flash before Barry Allen was introduced in 1956.

The Flash Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, October 6, on The CW.
