Lanterns Season 2 Is Seeming Likely Following Great Update Report for DCU Show

The chances of DC Studios‘ next release, Lanterns, getting a season 2 just improved if the latest rumors are true. The upcoming DCU series follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan as they investigate a mystery on Earth.

What is the update on Lanterns Season 2?

Lanterns has not officially been renewed for a season 2. However, a new update from @homeofdcu on X suggests that the writing team has begun work on the next season. The post read, “I hear that the Lanterns Season 2 Writers Room is now complete, and writing has begun!”

It continues, “As previously reported, Christopher Cantwell joins as an executive producer alongside Chris Mundy.” It should be noted that this is a rumor at this time, as Warner Bros. and HBO have not officially announced a second season.

Christopher Cantwell was reported to be joining the Lanterns writers’ room earlier this year. A few days after the report, He confirmed his involvement with the show on social media. No one else from DC Studios has commented on the matter.

Cantwell is the co-creator of AMC’s acclaimed series Halt and Catch Fire and has worked on shows like Paper Girls, The Terror, and Lodge 49. He has also written several comic books featuring Batman, Superman, and more.

If true, it would make Lanterns the third DCU series to be renewed for a second season, following Peacemaker and Creature Commandos. The first season will set the stage for Aaron Pierre’s return in Man of Tomorrow. HBO continues to promote Lanterns with new posters that fuel big questions around the new show. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn previously confirmed that Lanterns will be an 8-hour adventure.

Lanterns will premiere on August 16, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
