Oasis are “Definitely” Set to Reform… Maybe

Another month, another batch of fresh Oasis reformation rumours. This time it’s the Mirror with the “exclusive scoop”, with the ‘paper reportedly getting in touch with a source “close to the Gallagher brothers” who has stated that the band are in talks to reunite once again.

According to the tabloid, the source said: “It’s early days in terms of the details, but Noel and Liam, 42, are back on good terms and ready to give things another go. Nothing is signed but it’s what you might call a gentlemen’s agreement between them.

“Ultimately they’re family and whatever has gone on before can be sorted out – they’re very close beneath all the bluster.”

Firstly, let’s address the issue of how this source apparently referred to the Gallagher’s age whilst in a conversation with a Mirror reporter, as if that’s a way that real humans talk to one another. In what world do people say “I was talking to my mother, 64, about visiting her later on this evening”? Call me sceptical, but I have a feeling that this conversation didn’t actually take place.

Secondly, Noel Gallagher previously said that Oasis would only reform “for the money”. Considering Noel’s solo career is going better than even he expected, I’d say that he was telling the truth.

The Mirror’s “source” claimed that while Noel is enjoying his solo success, the disbandment of Beady Eye and Liam’s personal struggles following the revelations regarding his affair have led the younger Gallagher brother to want to regroup Oasis.

It’s highly doubtful that Noel and Liam will reunite at any point soon, but if they were to join forces once again, that’d mean that they would be doing so right in the middle of Blur’s reformation. A Britpop revival where all the participants are now middle-aged men with pot bellies isn’t exactly high on my must-see list, but at least if it does happen that’ll prevent these rumours from popping up every three days.
