Finally! SXSW Offers Live Streaming

If you’re bumming because you’re not in the multimedia orgy known as South By Southwest, we’ve got a silver lining worth brightening up for: Roku users will be able to tune into events all around SXSW, with over 2,000 bands playing as well as panels, exhibitions and more.

SXSW has its own network on the TV-addition called SXSW On, set to feature a range of live performances, both from this year’s festival and previous ones. SXSW On will feature “dynamic original programming along with live and archival performances, interviews and talks from the SXSW Music, Film and Interactive conference,” according to a statement from the festival.

The network will also offer a series called The Road, which will follow bands after their sets in an attempt to show the challenges and sacrifices required to make a living a professional touring musician. Another program called The Nom Nom will be food-based, featuring artists highlighting their favorite restaurants.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring SXSW into living rooms of Roku customers around the world,” said SXSW Director of Technology Scott Wilcox. “Having a dedicated network of original programming through the lens of SXSW is a leap forward for our organization and promises a bright future.”

The music side of SXSW begins March 17th.
