Darude Added To Future Music Lineup

Finnish DJ/producer Darude is bringing his late 90s techo hits to Future Music Festival this February and March.

The man behind 1999 classic dance track ‘Sandstorm’ will join Future main attractions Drake, Avicii and The Prodigy when the festival kicks off its national tour at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse on February 28.

Christmas has come early for one 28-year-old Melbourne resident, Rei Barker, who raised more than $3,000 to help bring Darude Down Under. Describing the 39-year-old DJ on his Pozible crowdfunding campaign as “the most influential and important musician alive”, Barker is naturally pretty stoked about Future’s latest recruit.

“(The Pozible campaign) didn’t quite get there,” Barker said via Future’s official Facebook on Thursday. “But Future Music have come in and saved the day… chipped in the rest and now Darude is coming to play Future Music. It’s going to be fucking awesome.”

While ‘Sandstorm’ sold more than 2.5 million copies and carried the Darude to international fame, the Eura, Hinnerjoki native has cracked the Aussie charts on two other occasions- 2000’s ‘Feel The Beat’ is his best ranking single, peaking at No.20 in 2000 while ‘Out Of Control (Back For More)’ came in at No.45 in 2001.

‘Sandstorm’ even made a recent comeback at this year’s Sterosonic when Australian electronic duo Peking Duk paid tribute to the trance anthem in front of Sydney’s main stage audience.
