Final Fantasy VII “Remake” to Price Gouge Fans at $15.99

At Saturday’s PlayStation Experience, Shinji Hashimoto of Square Enix took the stage, immediately initiating fan applause. Although for a few moments fans of Final Fantasy VII such as myself believed that they were about to witness one of the biggest announcements of our time, it turned out to be much less spectacular than initially thought.

The PS4 iteration of Final Fantasy VII that would be debuted is far from what fans have been asking for; it’s a port of the PC version rather than a full remaster. Yes, it includes some options for tweaking the game, as well as some achievements, but the game itself has remained largely untouched.

Although Final Fantasy VII‘s upcoming PS4 release has been drowned with negativity, there are certainly some gamers out there who are already excited to re-play the game as it’s always been. Though, the price might be an obstacle. Sold at $15.99, the PS4 version of Final Fantasy VII borders on being grossly expensive for being a half-effort port of a game that came out in the 90’s.

On the plus side, Square Enix has teased that the PS4 release will have “system-exclusive” features. What these will be is yet to be determined, but they are likely to come in the form of additional tweaking options that go beyond what the PC version introduced.
