David Moyes Returns to Football as Manager of Real Sociedad

David Moyes has been named the new manager of Real Sociedad, marking his first return to football since being axed from his post at Manchester United.

Moyes had a rough time with United, taking over from the veteran Sir Alex Ferguson and trying to lead an underperforming team in the wake of the retirement of their long-term coach. While plenty of the blame was placed squarely at Moyes’ feet, current United manager Louis van Gaal’s similar struggles with the club have led many to reconsider their opinions of Moyes’ managerial skills, instead looking towards the out-of-form squad as the reasoning behind their steady downfall over the past two seasons.

It seems that the powers that be at Real Sociedad also don’t believe that Moyes was to blame for United’s failings, with the La Liga club appointing him as Jagoba Arrasate’s replacement, who was dismissed from the Spanish side after a poor run of form.

Moyes is the right man for the job.

A statement from the club on their official website reads: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with David Moyes. Details about the official presentation of Real Sociedad’s new coach and who will form part of his technical team will be published tomorrow [Tuesday] morning.”

The club also branded him the “right man for the job”, writing: “Scottish manager David Moyes has been elected as Real Sociedad’s new first team coach. He was born on 25 April 1963 in Glasgow, and boasts a varied career both as a player and as a manager. He is also the first Scottish coach in the history of our club.”

Real Sociedad are currently positioned in 15th place in the La Liga, so Moyes certainly has his work cut out for him.
