Real Madrid Are No Longer Interested in De Gea

Real Madrid have reportedly dropped their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, scrapping their original plans to lure him away from the Premier League club this summer.

De Gea was a transfer target for the La Liga giants back in August 2015, but controversial circumstances that sullied the relationship between the Spanish and English clubs prevented the deal from being made. Despite De Gea being benched for much of the pre-season due to his expected move away from the club, he eventually remained at United, with it being expected that Madrid would pursue him again in the following summer.

However, it is now being reported by Marca that Real Madrid will remain devoted to current goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who has been in impeccable form this season and looks set to be offered a new contract with the club. Though De Gea has also been in good form for United, his positioning in an underperforming team will have likely contributed to Madrid’s alleged decision to back away from signing him.

On the other hand, Navas is now in a great position after initially being included in the transfer deal for De Gea, reportedly being offered a bumper contract to solidify his place as a permanent member of his club’s first team.
