Augie March Announce Return Shows

Australian indie rock band Augie March have announced a return ‘tour’ featuring the band’s first live shows in five years.

The Melbourne group kicked off the comeback announcement with new single ‘After The Crack Up’ in June, the first track from the five-piece’s long-awaited fifth studio album. They’ll be backing up the track and upcoming LP with a couple of rapidly selling shows this October.

Thursday saw Augie March announce a special one-off live date for fans at Melbourne venue Howler, followed by a second announcement just hours later after the original sold out.

“That first show back that we announced today, back where it all began, has SOLD OUT,” Augie March posted on Facebook. “So! We are playing a second night.”

The Brunswick boys will end their extended hiatus by playing a bunch of old favourites from their beloved back catalogue as well as fresh newbies from the upcoming follow-up to 2008’s Pennywhistle.

The band describes lead single ‘After The Crack Up’ as “lilting melodies coursing through rich yet rustic instrumental backings and Richards’ trademark literary references (the song is named after F. Scott Fitzgerald’s confessionals) which skewer concepts of male heroism, and its failure. Complete with a high-brow reading of Henry Lawson’s poetry.”
