Arsene Wenger Signs New Contract with Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has signed a new contract with Arsenal, after the manager successful led the London club to an FA Cup victory.

The new three-year contract comes at the end of a season in which fans’ faith in him was bolstered, after the club’s 2012-2013 season left many questioning whether he should still be at the helm. However, a 6-0 defeat to Manchester City in March enraged supporters of the club once more, with the manager eventually working his way back into their good books with a victory in the FA Cup final against Hull.

Wenger, who will now stay with the club until 2017, has lifted eight major trophies with them since he joined in 1996, though has failed to lead the team to a major domestic trophy win since 2005.

This season saw the manager sign Mesut Ozil for £42.4 million on transfer deadline day, after criticisms were leveled at him for not spending enough on players in the transfer windows. Ozil made an impact following his debut, though has had a patchy season since then and has been considered a flop, with his performances in the Premier League being a far cry from his days at Real Madrid.

However, Arsenal fans recently hijacked a poll published by the official Premier League website to determine the signing of the season, crowning the German player the best transfer in the 2013-2014 league ahead of Lukaku, Bony and Eriksen.
