Listen: Angus And Julia Stone Return With New Single ‘Heart Beats Slow’

Angus and Julia Stone are back with their first new material since 2010 in the form of new single ‘Heart Beats Slow’.

After spending the past couple of years pursuing solo projects, the sibling duet has once again teamed up to share the vocals alongside a folk flavoured, Fleetwood Mac-inspired sound.

“A couple of years ago when we were on tour, and very happily doing our solo records… We had made a decision that Angus and Julia were done as a group, and we really were enjoying ourselves with our own bands and having total control and not having to answer to each other,” Julia said of the split on Triple J radio on Tuesday.

But it was the promise of working with famed producer Rick Rubin (Public Enemy, Metallica, Johnny Cash and Jay Z) that brought the two back together, a long four years since the success of Down The Way and the Hottest 100 winning ‘Big Jet Plane’.

“He basically said I wanna make a record with the two of you, that’s just the way it is, you either do this with the two of you, or you don’t do it. So Angus and I had to start seriously talking about it… Slowly it unfolded that maybe there was a possibility that we could do something different this time, like actually write together.”

It wasn’t until a trip to the doctor that saw Angus diagnosed with a slow heartbeat, a condition he shares with his sister, that the pair began working together the opening single to the new LP.

The new Angus and Julia Stone album is out August 1, but you can catch them ahead of that at this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival alongside Outkast, Foster The People, Lily Allen and Interpol.
