The Elder Scrolls Online Requires Separate Subscription Fees Between Versions

Having fun playing The Elder Scrolls Online? Can’t wait to hop on over to the console version in a couple months? Not so fast!

Reddit user Lapwner went through the trouble of contacting Bethesda Customer Support to get the lowdown on the subscription structure between the PC and console version of TESO. Unfortunately, it’s all bad news.

It’s worth noting that TESO is not a cross-platform title. In other words, even if you pay $45/month to play on all three versions, you’ll be playing different characters on each. Consequently, progression is completely separate from platform to platform.

As someone who has recently jumped between the console and PC versions of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, I must say that cross-platform would have been a huge bonus for TESO players. Sometimes it’s more relaxing to sit on the couch and unwind, knocking out a few quests and enjoying a good story from the entertainment center. When it comes time to do challenging content, you can hop on over to your PC and enjoy the quick input of keyboard and mouse. Well, at least in the case of FFXIV: ARR, anyway.

For now, your only hope for playing TESO on separate platforms without a ridiculous fee is to hope it goes free-to-play sooner rather than later.
