Need for Speed: Rivals Release Moved to PS4 Launch

Those looking for a racing game to play when the PS4 arrives on November 15th are in-luck.

Sony has confirmed that EA’s Need for Speed: Rival will debut for the PS4 on launch day. Previously, the game was scheduled for a release on November 22nd, next to its Xbox One version.

Driveclub was recently delayed to 2014, leaving the PS4 with no racers for launch. Meanwhile, Xbox One has Forza 5, a game that could prove to be the most successful of the batch of next-gen launch exclusives.

Need for Speed: Rivals is being developed by a new studio under EA called Ghost Games. While the company might be in its infancy, it has some veteran developers from studios such as DICE (Battlefield series) and more importantly Criterion (Burnout series).

Its format will take some of the best qualities from recent Need for Speed titles, such as an expansive open-world to drive around in, deep personalization for vehicles, and the Autolog system for online interaction. It’ll also run on the new Frostbite 3.0 engine which has proven to be very impressive in Battlefield 4.
