Black Rebel Motorcycle Club Say Harvest Festival Cancelled

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club claim Harvest festival 2013 has been cancelled despite no official word from organisers.

The Californian rock trio spread the news on the band’s official Facebook page, but confirmed they would still be visiting Australia.

“We want to let you know that BRMC is still coming to Australia. Details for the Australian tour will be announced shortly. We will see you soon,” the band posted on Facebook.

Harvest festival promoter AJ Maddah declared last week that interest and ticket sales had been low and cancellation was being looked at as a very real possibility, however Maddah is looking at having the festival’s headliners- Massive Attack, Goldfrapp, Franz Ferdinand, Neutral Milk Hote- still visit for separate headline tours.

Maddah said late last week that just 18% of Brisbane’s 17,500 available tickets had been sold while Sydney had moved just 20% of their 20,000 available tickets- a potential loss of around $5.5 million if the event where to go ahead.

“Breaking even [this year] is not on the cards; the event has never broken even,” Maddah revealed.

“We never expected to [break even]… we have been subsidising the tickets since day one.”

“I’m devastated, we got Massive Attack and we’d dragged (‘Teardrop’ singer) Elizabeth Fraser out… And we had a good second line-up announcement.”

A number of bands have yet to comment their backup plans should the festival be called off, the sensible thing to do until an official announcement is made.
