Exclusive Premiere: GDP Turns Hypnotic Storyteller With ‘Placeholder’ Video

New Jersey’s flowmaster GDP has taken a step back from the pulsing, futuristic grime of 2011’s Useless Eaters and returns with a contemplative tale wrapped in a hypnotically smooth delivery. Haunting, moody and reminiscent of old-school film noir, his latest album Holla continues to earn respect in the hip-hop world as the GDP name becomes more widespread.

Peppered with GDP’s barbed couplets and brash vignettes, the entirety of Holla plays as a stream of consciousness navigating through the uncertainty of interpersonal relationships. Mature yet impulsive, obscure yet focused, GDP’s latest is a testament to his versatility as one of today’s most daring and innovative hip hop artists.

The aforementioned story is told through new track “Placeholder,” and runs through an intimate story of young love told over an assemblage of jazzy, serene samples and cinematic, orchestral interludes produced entirely by The Wrong Address.

Check out the video for “Placeholder” below, exclusively on CraveOnline, to see what you’ve been missing:

If he lived in Minnesota, it’s hard not to imagine this cat neck-deep in the Rhymesayer brotherhood. GDP has collaborated and/or toured with such notable hip hop luminaries as Young Zee, Tame One, Hot Sugar, Reef The Lost Cauze, RZA and Wu-Tang Clan. At the same time he has kept to his punk roots playing mixed bill shows with acts such as Trap Them, Loma Prieta, Suburban Scum and Incendiary.

Pick up Holla at Run For Cover Records, and keep up with GDP on Twitter and Facebook!
