Exclusive Video Premiere: Rainbow Jackson’s ‘Psycho Betty’ Sexes Up a She-Devil

Echo Park’s scuzzed-up power-pop outfit Rainbow Jackson are ready to shine their mighty light on the masses. They’ve been a mainstay of the hipster mecca’s indie scene for the last two years, supporting their friends White Arrows, NO and Youngblood Hawke, and the time has come to take flight on their own – and CraveOnline is here to help with the exclusive premiere of their latest video for the track “Psycho Betty”.

“Psycho Betty” is the first single from Rainbow Jackson’s Perpetual Summer EP, the follow-up to 2012’s Rippin’ Off The Rails, scheduled for release this September. Shot by Cousin Video (1/2 of Professor Possessor). The video centers on a day in the life of both the band and a she-devil superfan, the latter part played by Kat Pawlak of Sad Robot, who also sings backups on the track.

Frontman Chad Carlisle explains: “The song Psycho Betty is about anything that goes from something seemingly good or innocent to something twisted and evil in a swift change of events. It sounds like it’s about a girl, but it’s actually about a guitar.” He continued, “For the video concept we worked with our friends Cousin Video to make something a bit campy and weird without straying too far from the main idea of the song.”

Kat, whose inspired demonry anchors the video, offered the following: “As friends and a fan of Rainbow Jackson- I was honored to be apart of their video for Psycho Betty.  The title of the song alone had me saying yes not to mention the back up vocals I got to do on the track.  It was a real fun day shooting with these boys and I got to make out with the Chad in the end rocking some demon horns…not too shabby! I had a blast.”

Earlier this year, the band went to SXSW, where they performed at the Amazon MP3 Party and the Ooh La LA Records Showcase. Death+Taxes Magazine called them one of SXSW 2013 Rising Stars. In April, they released a new song called Flamingo Starr, which premiered via Pure Volume. In June, Rainbow Jackson released a split 7” with The Hindu Pirates via Near Mess Records, featuring the single Freckles, which premiered via Buzzbands. The video for Freckles later premiered via Pure Grain Audio
