Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta Begins August 16th, Here’s the Scoop

The latest Producer’s Letter Live for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has concluded. Producer Naoki Yoshida had a lot to say.

Beta Phase 4 will run from August 17th to the 19th, but those who participated in Phase 3 will be able to start on the 16th. A level 20 cap will be put in place to prevent Phase 4 players from getting too far ahead since characters won’t be wiped. A week later on August 24th, Early Access (for those who pre-ordered) will begin. Three days later the game will officially launch.

Arcanist will be available for its first time in Phase 4, as will the Fishing profession, and PvP, which is now known as Wolves’ Den instead of Coliseum. A level 30 character will normally be required to participate in PvP but that will be reduced to 20 during Beta Phase 4 for testing purposes.

Square Enix also opened up on features and future content. Game time cards are confirmed as is a world transfer service, although both will arrive shortly after launch. A barber shop will be coming to the game at a later date allowing players to re-design their characters hairstyle and more. A smartphone app is in development that will be able to display character information, abilities, and more about the game. It is expected to be released in late September.

A marriage system is being worked on since so many fans voiced their love for the system in Final Fantasy XIFor those who love collecting vanity items, a unicorn mount was revealed, although it’s exclusive to the White Mage. More mounts for other classes and jobs have been promised. Oh, and the water primal Leviathan will be in the game.

Lastly, as part of the Welcome Back Campaign 1.0 players can play FFXIV: ARR for free until September 9th.
