Rumor: Half-Life 3 Engine and Left 4 Dead 3 Spotted at Valve HQ

Remember when I said Valve will be revealing games at this year’s Gamescom? Well, that’s looking more realistic than ever before.

A user on Reddit recently took some photos while touring the Valve office and got more than he bargained for. Among ordinary images of white boards and employees is a snapshot of the development team’s change log (an order of task items for programmers). What was on it is what everyone is talking about.

The items in question directly mention not only a Source Engine 2, but Left for Dead 3. Several entries (seen below) can be read related to both products with the names of a tasked developer and elaborate descriptions.

The new Source engine in particular practically confirms the existence of Half-Life 3, as the franchise has always been the spearhead of new engines from the studio. Rumors of a next-gen Source engine have been around for a while, but Valve has been known to reveal new products on its own watch. How long we’ll be waiting to see these “rumored” products is unknown, but given the team’s empty list of upcoming games, and its soon to be released Steam Box, it shouldn’t be long until we see Gordan Freeman and the G-Man again.

In terms of the rumor’s validity, the change log looks 100% legitimate. If it were fake it’d have taken a lot of work on Valve’s part, and that’s not really its style. Someone at the studio must have left a monitor on with information that it didn’t intend to show to the public. Whoops!
