17 Years Later, Megan Fox’s Seductive Horror Sequel Has a ‘Fun & Crazy’ Update

A cult horror favorite starring Megan Fox is officially getting another go. Director Karyn Kusama has confirmed that a sequel to the 2009 comedy horror film is in active development, and she’s teasing fans with an update that promises the same wild energy as the original.

Diablo Cody is developing a Jennifer’s Body sequel script for 20th Century Studios. Kusama shared her reaction to the project ahead of her reunion with Megan Fox: “I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it,” Kusama told Deadline. “I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”

The original film flopped commercially after a mis-marketed campaign, compounded by harsh media coverage of Megan Fox. Kusama now celebrates how the movie found its audience anyway. She calls its cult status deeply satisfying and says she’s “just so grateful” the work continues to speak to people.

The director also pointed to a recent pop culture nod as proof of the film’s staying power. Prime Video’s Overcompensating featured a recurring reference to the movie, complete with a cameo from Fox. Kusama joked that hearing the film described as someone’s Godfather “just tickles me all the way down to my toes.”

She reflected on the project’s origins too, admitting she initially hesitated to read Cody’s script because of its title. Once she dug in, the blend of humor, horror, and tragedy hooked her. Meeting the actor sealed the deal, and Kusama praised her comedic timing and intelligence, calling the performance a “secret weapon.”
