Neve Campbell has shared a huge update about Scream 8. Campbell has played the final girl, Sidney Prescott, in every Scream movie except the sixth entry.
Neve Campbell confirms she will reprise the role of Sidney Prescott in Scream 8
Campbell recently told AP News that she will return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8, noting it is one of the projects in her pipeline. When asked whether she could speak more about the eighth film in the iconic horror franchise, Campbell smiled and said, “You know I could never tell you anything about Scream 8.” She then confirmed that she would be in the movie.
The initial announcement about Scream 8 came on the heels of the success of the seventh movie in March 2026. At the time, reports revealed that Lilla and Nora Zuckerman were penning its screenplay.
In September, Courteney Cox, who plays Gale Weathers in the franchise, expressed her interest in directing the movie. In the same month, Melissa Barrera noted that she would not return for another Scream movie if Spyglass continued to hold the rights. Notably, Barrera was fired from the franchise in 2023.
The first entry in the Scream series came out in 1996. Kevin Williamson created the franchise, with Wes Craven directing the first four entries. Williamson helmed the most recent chapter, which made about $207.9 million at the global box office against a production budget of $45 million (via Box Office Mojo), after receiving poor responses from critics and garnering a 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As indicated above, that led to Spyglass and Paramount greenlighting the eighth movie.
As things stand, much about Scream 8 remains shrouded in mystery. It doesn’t yet have a confirmed director. The plot also remains under wraps. Major details about the cast are also not known at this point. Additionally, Scream 8 doesn’t yet have a release date.
