Alfonso Cuarón‘s upcoming horror television series just received a major casting update. Ascension (T’Nia Miller-starring show) has welcomed three new big stars, per the latest reports.
As Deadline reported, the Apple TV series has added Art Malik, best known for The Woman in Cabin 10 and The Little Mermaid; Fred Loxley, renowned for Killa Bee and Number 10; and Mirren Mack from 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple as series regulars.
The three will join the previously announced cast, which included Caitríona Balfe (who leads and executive produces), Bill Nighy, Amanda Plummer, and Christopher Chung.
What is Alfonso Cuarón’s new horror show about?
Ascension is a one-hour psychological horror thriller inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel Last Days. It follows Rose (Balfe), a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother, as she begins a project on a mysterious 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension.
Though Rose is brilliant at uncovering others’ truths, she struggles to resolve her own. But her project on the mysterious cult leads her to find unexpected refuge in its teachings — until she discovers something far more insidious beneath.
Per Deadline, “The series explores evil and innocence at the highest level, while asking how far we’ll go — and what we’ll sacrifice — to protect the ones we love, even when the greatest threat to them may be ourselves.”
The Apple TV show is being executive produced by Gabriela Rodriguez and Richard Schwartz for Esperanto Filmoj alongside Alfonso Cuarón and Carlos Cuarón, and Steve Golin, David Levine, and Zack Hayden for Anonymous Content. Natalie Erika James and Christian White also serve as executive producers.
James serves as the lead director, with the script penned by James, White, and Alfonso and Carlos Cuarón. Anonymous Content also produces.
At the time of writing, Ascension doesn’t have an official release date yet.
