Some drivers get away with a hit and run, but that usually doesn’t happen when they hit someone they know. A driver in Florida struck a person on a bicycle near the parking lot of a Taco Bell and tried to flee the scene. But it didn’t take long before officers tracked him down and charged him with a felony.
Police say that the driver knew the man that he hit
On September 6 before the break of dawn, officers responded to an incident where 20-year-old Tyler Sandor had “intentionally” hit a cyclist with his vehicle at 1606 Hammock Ridge Road, according to a post by the Clermont Police Department in Florida on its official Facebook page. A quick search of the address leads to a Taco Bell.
The report says that the Sandor and the victim “were known to each other,” though it is unclear what the relationship is between the two. Nor does it say what the potential motive was for the collision.
Fortunately, the person on the bicycle suffered only minor injuries and did not need to be taken to the hospital. This is despite the bicycle being “completely destroyed.”
By the time officers arrived on the scene, however, Sandor had already fled. Officers from the Mascotte Police Department received information about the suspect and quickly located the vehicle and stopped the driver.
Booking records reveal that Sandor was arrested at around 5:59 a.m. in Mascotte, Florida. He has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, which is a second-degree felony, and with a hit and run for leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property, which is a second-degree misdemeanor.
The total bond amount came to $20,000, a sum that was paid. Sandor is expected to appear in court on September 23 for his arraignment.
