A major Marvel scooper just revealed how big the X-Men‘s role in Avengers: Secret Wars will actually be. The mutant team’s involvement reportedly goes far beyond simple cameo appearances in the Multiverse Saga’s finale.

The X-Men could play a significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars after Doomsday. Scooper MyTimeToShineHello claimed on X that “the X-Men material in Avengers Secret Wars is bigger than most people are bracing for. Not just cameos.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has already laid groundwork for mutants beyond Doomsday. He confirmed Secret Wars would “reset” the MCU with a “singular timeline” and a recast X-Men team. Feige also revealed the studio has a ten-year plan for X-Men characters going forward.
Doomsday already features several actors from Fox’s X-Men film series. Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden all return. Channing Tatum also reprises his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.
Feige stated in November 2024 that Fox X-Men characters would continue appearing leading up to Secret Wars. He described the film as introducing “a new age of mutants and of the X-Men.” Sadie Sink will also portray Jean Grey after first appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The Russo brothers confirmed both the 1984 and 2015 Secret Wars comics serve as “loose inspiration.” Feige added that “Time Runs Out” also inspired the films’ storylines. Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 Secret Wars prominently featured the X-Men across its Battleworld narrative.
Feige said one goal for both films was giving closure to Marvel storylines predating the MCU. He specifically referenced the Fox X-Men characters in that context. Feige called Secret Wars “as ambitious a project as we’ve ever embarked on.”
Principal photography for Secret Wars begins in mid-2026 and could last approximately six months. The film arrives in theaters on December 17, 2027. It will conclude the Multiverse Saga as the 40th MCU movie.
