TikTok Creator Gets Handcuffed Minutes After Buying Car Connected to a Murder Warrant

Buyer beware! A TikTok creator who makes content about cars was detained by police within minutes of him purchasing a vehicle that was tied to a warrant. Footage from TikTok user @topmansammy, who was a passenger in the Hellcat during the incident, shows fellow creator and driver @habibis.cat not being sure why they were being stopped by the cops. They thought it could have been over a stop sign or some other driving violation. But when backup police cars arrive on the scene, they begin to understand that something much more serious was happening than just a simple traffic stop.

In a video posted on topmansammy’s TikTok channel on July 12, the pair was ordered to pull over by cops only 20 minutes after purchasing the Hellcat. When additional police cars pull up behind them, both start to panic.

That is when a cop gets out of his car and orders the driver to put his hands out of the window and step out of the vehicle. The passenger is ordered to do the same as well. Remaining calm, the driver announces that he has his seatbelt on and has a firearm in the driver’s seat door. The passenger also relays that he owns a firearm in his backpack.

Still confused, the passenger questions the police on why he was being handcuffed. He asks, “Am I being arrested or, like?”

The cop answers, “You’re being detained, because someone in the car has a warrant for homicide.”

While in the back seat of a patrol car, the TikTok creator couldn’t believe the situation he was in. “Oh my god, bro,” he says while looking down at the camera. “This is not right. Well, I’m in handcuffs. This is crazy. Homicide … I’m recording everything.”

Fortunately at the end of the video, both TikTok creators were let go and the police apologize for the confusion, though the cop said they shouldn’t be surprised by how they were detained given the seriousness of the alleged offense.

It’s unclear if the previous owner of the car that sold it to them was the one wanted for homicide. The presumption is that the police were tracing the car by its license plate in connection to the warrant.

Commenters on the video said that the incident is grounds for a lawsuit, while others believe the police followed proper procedure.
