Man Refusing to Stop Sitting on Highway Quickly Convinced by K9 Unit

A man found out the hard way what happens when you sit in the middle of a busy highway and refuse to listen to the cops. Police in Washington responded to a high-risk traffic stop when an unnamed driver from Lake Stevens who was wielding a firearm began driving erratically on the I-5. After officers stopped the vehicle, the man sat in the freeway and wouldn’t budge. That’s when deputies sent a K-9 to detain him.

Two deputies and a German shepherd K-9 named Greg were deployed on July 29 to assist the Marysville Police Department when a man refused to leave a highway, in a post from the official Facebook page of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Before 5 p.m., police responded to reports of a man brandishing a firearm while driving erratically, according to the Marysville Police Department spokesperson Robb Lamoureux (per Heraldnet).

After closing all northbound lanes on the I-5, the vehicle was stopped and officers ordered the man to stop out of the vehicle. While the driver complied, he “appeared to be in some type of distress and was not comprehending officer’s instructions.” That’s when he decided to sit on the highway and refused to move.

Video footage from the deputies show that police were hesitant to approach the driver, because they couldn’t locate his firearm. That’s why the cops decided to strike fast by using a non-lethal PepperBall gun and a K-9 unit to detain and incapacitate the man.

The deputy ordered the man to lay on the ground multiple times or be bit by the K-9. When he didn’t comply, a PepperBall was fired before the German shepherd was sent sprinting toward the man. The deputy yelled “Good boy!” as the canine clamped down on his leg, allowing the police to subdue the man and take him into custody.

The man is charged with second-degree assault and has been booked into Snohomish County Jail.
