According to Deadline, Jackie Earle Haley, Justine Lupe, Anna Mirodin, Jayne Taini, Michael Gandolfini, Tom Pecinka, Melora Walters, Ben Krieger, Natalie Shinnick, and Jan Hoag have all joined the project. The identities of their characters remain undisclosed, leaving open the possibility that any one of them could become the monster.
Returning to headline the sequel is Maika Monroe, who reprises her role from the original film. Naomi Ackie has also officially joined the cast in a leading role after previously being linked to the project. Beyond confirming that the story takes place 10 years after the first film, the filmmakers have not revealed additional plot details.
Writer-director David Robert Mitchell is returning to write and direct the sequel, continuing the story of the supernatural curse introduced in It Follows. The 2015 horror film followed a young woman named Jay who became the target of a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter.
The creature pursued its victims by taking the appearance of ordinary people, forcing Jay and her friends into a desperate attempt to survive. The original film premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival before receiving widespread critical acclaim upon its release.
Mitchell has written the screenplay for They Follow and is also producing the sequel along with Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, Erik Rommesmo, Mike D’Alto, Randal Sandler, Scott Aharoni, Sinan Eczacıbaşı, David Kaplan, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.
